THE NEW ERA: Returning the U.S. to Democracy and Prosperity

THE NEW ERA: Returning the U.S. to Democracy and Prosperity

Over the past four decades, the U.S. has gone through one of the most critical periods in its history. From becoming the sole superpower and the leader of the global economy, it has turned into the most indebted country. Dr. Hamdy El-Rayes argues that the root of this economic crisis is a dysfunctional political system, controlled by the Power Triad of multinational corporations, special interest groups, and the Military Industrial Complex.

The book shows that the policies and income inequality that led to the recessions of the ’80s, ’90s and the Great Recession of 2008 are the same ones that caused the bank failures and Great Depression of the 1930s.

The book helps you understand the strategic political and economic mistakes that successive U.S. administrations made, and what you, as an individual and a community, can do to restore democracy and prosperity.

Dr. El-Rayes offers new ideas for good governance, discusses a wide range of solutions, and calls for establishing New Era Community Clubs, where people like you can start dialogues and galvanize communities to restore democracy and prosperity and to transform power from the ruling class and the wealthy elites to ordinary people using non-violent means.

About Hamdy El-Rayes

He has a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, an MBA, and training in mental health, executive coaching, economics, and finance. He spent a major part of his career as consulting engineer, owner and manager of an environmental consulting firm, employee with municipal and state governments (L.A. County Sanitation District and Metro Vancouver), and a university educator in the U.S. and Canada.

In 2006, he decided to dedicate his life to serving the community and established El-Rayes Foundation as a venue to fill a gap in treatment of mental illness with focus on depression and anxiety, the second cause of disability in the developed countries. In 2011, he published a book titled, Mental Wellness: A Spiritual Journey, which was very well received by patients and mental health professionals. The Foundation also offers financial assistance to Egyptians who need help to feed their children and send them to school.

He has been involved in the political process in North America since 1981. He participated in both provincial and federal politics and ran for the B.C. Green Party in 2005. The Occupy Wall Street movement motivated him to write this book to address inequality, and restore democracy and prosperity.

Welcome to the New Era Club

In the past two decades, the U.S. has gone through one of the most critical periods in its history. While it was once the world’s only superpower and the leader of the global economy, the country has been deteriorating because of policies that favor the wealthy, corporations, the defense contractors, and certain special interest groups, rather than the interests of the American people. As a result, wealth has been sucked up to the top of the food chain and inequality has increased to the point where it puts the nation at risk of social and political instability.

After the 9/11 attacks, the Bush Administration indulged in futile wars that significantly contributed to our unprecedented federal debt and a lagging economy. In addition, deregulation of the banking system and corporate greed led to the 2008 economic crisis, but the government did not hold anyone responsible for it. The economic crisis severely hurt low income and middle-class Americans, while some of the wealthiest have even benefited.

The Obama Administration inherited a collapsing economy, but it did not hesitate to bail out those who caused the crisis and is even considering austerity measures in the 2013 fiscal budget, further punishing Americans who are struggling to make ends meet. Indeed, the political powers in the U.S. seem to be working against the common good of the American people.
